Ben Eliezer demands PA revoke decision to boycott settlement products

January 31, 2014 at 12:50 pm

Israeli Industry, Trade and Labour Minister, Binyamin Ben Eliezer, has criticised the decision by the Palestinian Authority to boycott Israeli products manufactured in settlements claiming that resorting to measures of economic boycott was malicious.

Ben Eliezer called on Palestinians to call off the boycott in light of the proximity talks that have begun between the two sides and for the PA to carefully consider the reality that many Palestinians work in settlement factories.

Chairwoman of the centrist opposition Kadima party, Dalia Itzik, has also criticised the decision describing it as a “stupid decision that will primarily affect the income of Palestinians themselves.” Itzik added that mutual approach between the two peoples could not sustain the boycott and called upon the Palestinians to immediately retract their flawed decision and announcement.

Similarly, during earlier discussions between Netanyahu and Mitchell, the Israelis demanded an end to the phenomena of incitement in educational institutes, mosques and on the Palestinian streets and an end to the boycott of Israeli products as well as the cessation of Palestinian efforts to prevent Israel’s accession to various international bodies.
