US Secretary of State John Kerry has expressed his belief that there is no military solution to the current Syrian crisis. A diplomatic solution is the most appropriate for preserving the institutions of the state and achieving future progress, he insisted.
“There is no military solution,” Kerry told America’s NPR Radio. “Absolutely not; there’s only a continued rate of destruction and the creation of a humanitarian catastrophe for everybody in the region if the fighting continues.”
Speaking as UN weapons’ inspectors continue to evaluate Syria’s stockpile of chemical weapons, Kerry said that he hopes that they can be moved as quickly possible to one location and then removed from the Middle East altogether. The UN Security Council approved a resolution in September to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons.
