February 5, 2014 at 2:11 am

Algeria’s ruling National Liberation Front Party has announced that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will run for a fourth presidential term in the elections scheduled to take place next April.

Ammar Saadani, the party’s Secretary General, told members, “I announce to you officially that the National Liberation Front will nominate party leader and the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika for a fourth term during the next election.”

Bouteflika has been the honorary president of the ruling party since 2005 although he does not participate in the party’s official meetings. At 76 years old he will end his third term in April 2014 and the constitution grants him the right to stand for election again.
