Libyan politician survives assassination attempt

February 5, 2014 at 12:41 am

The head of the semi-autonomous Barqa Province (Cyrenaica), in the east of Libya, Abedrabu Al-Bar’asi survived an assassination attempt on Sunday. A source close to Al-Bar’asi said that his bodyguards caught the armed attacker and arrested him. He is under investigation in order to find out who was behind the attack. “More details about the incident will be announced at a press conference on Monday,” the source said.

Barqa Province is not recognised by Libya’s central government. Al-Bar’asi announced last October that he had formed a government of 24 ministers to run the area.
