Tunisian president hopes Iran can adopt objective role as mediator in Syria

February 5, 2014 at 10:10 am

Tunisian President Al-Moncef Al-Marzouki said on Monday that Iran would get respect from the Arab world if it adopted the role as an objective mediator to achieve peace in Syria.

Al-Marzouki also renewed his offer to grant political asylum to Bashar Al-Assad.

Speaking to AP, the Tunisian president also explained that the increasing extremism in his country, which has led to two political assassinations, had wasted a year of progress, which Tunisia should have exploited.

He also warned that Arab Spring countries could easily go back to dictatorship, however he predicted that his own country is far away from that destination.

However, he affirmed that stability is urgently needed in order to settle the situations in both Egypt and Libya.
