Qandil: Egypt violently represses anyone who expresses their opinion

February 7, 2014 at 3:13 pm

Egyptian journalist, Wael Qandil, has said that Liberals do not understand the real meaning of liberalism.

He said that it was not reasonable that they should support the killing of a whole group of people, the committing of genocides against them, torching the corpses of their supporters, disposing of them in garbage cans and not issuing burial orders for them.

In an interview with al Jazeera, Qandil said that Egypt becoming more distressed and that the country was implementing oppressive measures and political detentions against anyone who expressed their opinion and attended peaceful protests.

He said that the state frightens people and detains them in order to scare others. He noted that the authorities are monopolising violence. In partnership with thugs there is widespread use of violence. He said that people did not need to be killed in order to maintain the state’s power.

According to Qandil, the state’s power should be maintained by respecting people, protecting them and fulfilling their hopes. “The state must defend its people in order to be respected by all countries,” he said.
