Israeli court renews administrative detention of Palestinian legislators

February 10, 2014 at 1:45 pm

The Israeli occupation renewed on Sunday the administrative detention of two Islamist Palestinian parliamentarians, Ahrar for Prisoners Studies has announced.

The two parliamentarians, Ahrar reported, are the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Mahmoud Al-Ramahi and PLC member Yasser Mansour.

This is the second time that the occupation authorities have renewed their administrative detention for another six months.

Al-Ramahi was detained in October 2012, and Mansour was detained one month later. Both were accused of inciting against the Israeli occupation and supporting the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation also renewed the administrative detention of prisoners Mo’ayad Shurrab and Ismail Al-Soweeti.

Both went on hunger strike and the occupation authorities pledged to release them after their administrative sentences ended if they agreed to break to strike. “By this renewal, the Israeli occupation broke its promises of release,” Ahrar noted.

According to Ahrar, 15 PLC members are currently being detained by the occupation authorities. 11 of them, who are affiliated with Hamas, are under administrative detention.

Marwan Al-Barghouti, who is with Fatah, is serving five life sentences and Ahmed Sa’adat, who is with the Popular Front, is serving 30 years.
