The armed wing of Fatah, Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, has exhibited its arsenal of guns, rockets and missiles in the Gaza Strip. This, reported Israel's Channel 2, illustrates the extent of the problems and opposition from within Fatah itself faced by the Palestinian president regarding the resumption of negotiations.
The channel pointed out that the emergence of the armed group affiliated with Fatah and its release of a statement in which it rejects the negotiations and insists that Fatah's only option is armed struggle sends a strong message and is an embarrassment to President Mahmoud Abbas. This is especially so, it said, as the exhibition was held on the same day that "talks about talks" began in Washington DC.
Stressing that armed struggle is the "only way" to liberate Palestine, Al-Aqsa Brigades also distributed leaflets in Gaza in which the group said that it will continue to arm itself and prepare to fight "the lying Israeli enemy who does not believe in peace".
The leaflets pointed out that despite the many pressures on Fatah and its armed wing, it still manages to arm itself, train and produce its own weapons and missiles.
