IDB agrees reconstruction projects in Gaza worth $15 million

The Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah has agreed to fund new reconstruction projects in the Gaza Strip worth $15 million. An IDB delegation made the announcement at the end of a visit to the Palestinian territory. The latest sum brings the total value of IDB projects in Gaza to $460 million.


IDB Field Coordinator Refat Diyab, who accompanied the delegation during their stay in Gaza, said that agreements on other projects sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council Programme for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip were also signed, including a number of projects sponsored by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arabic Economic Development. Other projects planned to be sponsored by the Kuwaiti Fund were also discussed, such as a sewage treatment plant, a desalination plant and a residential compound, as well as support for Al-Wahshi Electricity Plant in El-Arish in Egypt intended to double the electricity supply to the Gaza Strip.

Another agreement worth $12 million was signed with the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to build schools for Palestinian refugees in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip has signed 23 project agreements for street paving at a total cost of $45 million.
