The internationally renowned thinker, critic and linguistics scholar Noam Chomsky has arrived in the Gaza Strip to participate in an international conference organised by the English Department at the Islamic University. The conference will focus on linguistics and literature and begins on Saturday. Chomsky, who entered Gaza through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, will hold a press conference today at the University, and will deliver a lecture at the opening of the conference.
Professor Chomsky was born in 1929. He is well-known for his linguistic, philosophical and critical academic output in the field of language, literature, politics, philosophy and sociology. He is also famous for his intellectual and extremely vocal opposition to US foreign policy, as well as his criticism of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
