"Black Bloc" claims responsibility for attacks against Muslim Brotherhood

A group known as the Black Bloc has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks against the offices of the Muslim Brotherhood and security forces over the past few days. A formal complaint against the group has been filed with Egypt’s national prosecutor by the Secretary General of the National Centre for Defending Freedom, Khalid Al-Masri.

Salafist Front member Al-Masri said that the complaint includes names and photographs of Black Bloc members, as well as their supporters and sponsors. He named them as former member of the now-dissolved National Party and owner of Al-Tahrir TV channel, businessman Solaiman Amer; activist Hamdeen Sabbahi and Christian priest Metyas Nasser Monqeryous. Al-Masri said that he would reveal the names of other public figures in due course.

“This violent group,” claims Al-Masri, “is well-organised and its members are well-known. Evidence is going to be presented to the Public Prosecutor.”

According to coordinator of the Samidoon Movement, Hazem Khater, his group has identified 50 members of Black Bloc and he also claims to have strong evidence which proves their involvement in violent and terrorist actions. The evidence, says Khater, includes voice recordings, photographs and video clips of all of the group’s secret moves and meetings.

He denies any link between Black Bloc and the revolutionary movements and has told the local media that he too will file legal action unless those he describes as “astray youths” put an end to their ” violent activities”.
