Brotherhood holds Israel's Mossad responsible for Sinai attack

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood (MB) has condemned the Sinai attack and accused Israel’s external intelligence agency, Mossad, of instigating it.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the MB said, “This crime should be attributed to the Israeli Mossad, which has been trying to undermine the Egyptian revolution since its early stages.” “To ask Israelis to leave Sinai a couple of days before the attack indicates Mossad’s involvement”, the statement read.

It noted that the attack had several objectives, among them the instigation of a serious border crisis to compound the internal problems that resulted from the collapse of the previous corrupt regime.

Other motives cited were Israel’s attempt to undermine the newly formed Egyptian government and obstruct President Morsi’s reform plan, as well as provoke a dispute between the Egyptian administration and the Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip.

According to the MB, the atrocity highlighted the inadequate numbers of soldiers presently deployed in the Sinai to protect the country’s borders. This is a matter that necessitates a review of the Camp David Treaty.

The MB statement said the Egyptian authorities should have been better prepared for the disaster, especially after the Israelis had ordered their citizens to leave the area. “Each time they warn their citizens, a terror attack takes place in Sinai,” the statement read.
