Meshaal calls Abbas confirming welcome of UN move

On Monday morning (26.11), the head of Hamas’ Political Bureau, Khaled Meshaal, held a telephone conversation with Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, during which he confirmed that Hamas welcomed steps to obtain Observer Status at the United Nations.

According to a statement released by the Hamas’ Information Office, Meshaal confirmed, “the need for this step to be taken within the framework of a strategic national vision which preserves the national rights and constants, and is based on the strength factors of our Palestinian people, primarily the resistance.”

Meshaal also emphasised to Abbas the need to achieve national reconciliation as a national priority, and to benefit from the positive atmosphere following the Palestinian people’s recent victory.
