Offensive advert was broadcast on YouTube, not on Israeli TV

A spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry has confirmed that the television advertisement which, it was alleged, insulted President Mohamed Morsi, was not broadcast on any Israeli television channel.

Minister Plenipotentiary Amr Rushdie added in a press statement: “All of the available information shows that the advert was broadcast via YouTube on the internet, by a non-governmental organisation with no official links, and has not been aired on [Israeli] TV channels.” That, he said, explains why the writing used in the short commercial are in the English language and not Hebrew, which is always used in television commercials in Israel.

President Morsi had asked the foreign ministry to respond to the insult, which was part of an advert to encourage Israeli youth to build “the Third Temple” on the ruins of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
