OIC chief urges Libyans to preserve national unity

February 17, 2014 at 11:15 pm

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has urged the people of Libya to preserve their national unity and the territorial integrity of their country. He called upon all Libyans to rally around the Transitional National Council as the sole legitimate representative of the people, and to support the council at this important and sensitive stage.

The OIC chief encouraged the transitional government to move forward towards the completion of the shift to democracy and set in place the goals of the revolution. The people of Libya, said Ihsanoglu, made huge sacrifices to overthrow injustice and the effort must continue. He added that the OIC is supporting the council in this process and emphasised the need for unity and Libyan independence.
