The new British ambassador in Tel Aviv, Matthew Gould, has confirmed that he is keen to contribute toward remedying the issue of “the Iranian nuclear threat” to the region in response to concerns in both London and Tel Aviv.

While delivering his credentials on Tuesday (05.10.2010) to the Israeli President, Shimon Peres, Gould stated that “Britain shares with Israel anxiety over the Iranian threat which will be one of my main concerns in that it will constitute a wide part of my work as an ambassador in Tel Aviv.” On his part, Peres stated that “Britain faces the same threat faced by Israel which is manifested in Iranian efforts to dominate the region.”

The first Jewish British ambassador Israel confirmed that his country would “exert every effort possible with the aim of pushing the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations forward, particularly when these negotiations reach the stage of having to make difficult decisions.”
