Erdogan: History will not forgive the appeasement of Israel

February 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Turkey’s Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has denounced the passive stance taken by Arab and Western states with regard to Israeli brutality, asserting that “history will indict the governments of states which remained silent in the face of Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.”

During a press conference in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Monday, Erdogan called on Israel to apologise for the perpetration of its crimes against the ‘Freedom Flotilla’ and to pay compensation to the families of those who were killed aboard the Turkish ship, Mavi Marmara. Israeli forces boarded the ship in international waters in May this year killing nine of the passengers aboard all of whom were civilians on a humanitarian relief mission to the besieged Gaza Strip. Thirty bullets were fired into their bodies according to a forensic report.

On his part, Syrian President, Bashar al-Asad, reaffirmed his rejection of direct and indirect Palestinian talks with the Israeli Occupation emphasising the racism and fascist nature of the most recent citizenship law which compels “non-Jews to swear an oath of allegiance to Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.”
