Hamas will not react to hostile Egyptian media campaign

The leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has said that he and his colleagues will not be dragged into responses to the hostile Egyptian “media campaign” against them. Dr. Salah al-Bardawil said that all Hamas demands from Cairo is to be treated as a people of dignity, defending the largest Arab, Muslim and even humanitarian cause in the world today.

In an exclusive statement to Quds Press, Dr. Bardawil said, “We are suffering from the fact that Egypt has pre-conceived ideas about and against Hamas and has launched a mass media campaign against us, trying to force a response by provoking us.” Hamas, he added, does not wish to divert attention from the real issue – struggling against the Israeli occupation and siege – by engaging in a media war with a neighbouring Arab country.

“We have no wish for hostility with our Egyptian brothers,” said Dr. Bardawil, “we only want to build good relations, the starting point for which is for those in Cairo to respect our dignity at the core of this major issue facing the international community.”
