Islamic University in Gaza holds ceremony in honor of released Palestinian prisoners

February 20, 2014 at 3:34 pm

The Islamic University of Gaza has organized a ceremony in honor of the Palestinian prisoners recently released by Israel. The ceremony, held at the University conference building, was attended by eminent Palestinian personalities including the Prime Minister of the government in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh. The dozens of freed prisoners in attendance were honored and given a very warm welcome by all present.

Many of the freed prisoners suffer the effects of an Israeli prisons policy which aims at promoting and institutionalizing ignorance among prisoners. This is done through the imposition of punishments like over extending periods of study and preventing education all together.

On Sunday, the Islamic University announced that it was preparing to develop a program for freed prisoners to complete their education. Work on the program, which will aim to enable the freed prisoners to achieve certification in various specialized fields, should be completed in the coming month.
