Jordan's King Abdullah dismisses the government

The King of Jordan has yielded to pressure from protesters and parliament and dismissed the government of Maarouf Al-Bakhit. King Abdullah II also sacked his intelligence chief, Mohamed Al-Rakkad.

According to Jordanian sources, the King “accepted the resignation” of Prime Minister Al-Bakhit and entrusted Awn Khaswaneh to form a new government. Khaswaneh, a judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, is also a senior member of the country’s royal court. King Abdullah appointed Faisal Al-Shobaki to the senior intelligence role.

Reports also suggest that the King has “accepted the resignation” of Royal Court Chief Khalid Al-Karki and appointed Marwan Al Hamoud in his place.
