A day of protest

On Friday 12 March, thousands of residents of Gaza City came out in mass peaceful demonstration against the continued Israeli Judaisation of Islamic religious places and heritage sites as well as Israel's aggressive expansionist settlement policy.

Organised by the National Committee to express a widespread religious rejection of these policies, the grassroots effort was well co-ordinated with participants beginning the march from all mosques across the city. Participants came from every walk of Palestinian life; from members of the different political factions and the military wings of the resistance movement, to scientists, intellectuals and men of reform.

In a sharp escalation, Jerusalem City witnessed on Friday violent confrontation and clashes between thousands of Muslim worshipers and Israeli occupation forces. The Israeli soldiers were deployed in force and a large number of barriers were erected to prevent individuals from praying at the al-Aqsa Mosque.

The National Committee, which includes representatives of the Palestinian factions Hamas and Islamic Jihad have urged the Palestinian public to come out in a statement of solidarity and rejection of the continued violation of Islamic sanctities.
