In a ceremony on Sunday, the College of Engineering at the Islamic University in Gaza City was awarded by the Islamic Development Bank of Science and Technology, for its accomplishments in scientific research. The University’s President, Kamalain Shaath, asserted that the award was a symbol of steadfastness, constancy and a good omen of success despite the challenges faced by the Palestinian people. It also reflected the inability of their enemies to undermine their will and identity.
Shaath said: “We at the university welcome this triumph because it comes at a time when we are under a crippling blockade and face restrictions on movement as well as academic and scientific interaction with the outside world. As such we are delight even more because the achievement has come despite the university’s science and engineering buildings and laboratories being directly targeted.” Shaath also mentioned that this was the second time the Islamic University had won the award which was first achieved by its Faculty of Sciences in 2006.
In a move designed to mitigate the suffocating siege on the Gaza Strip, the Islamic University announced its decision to initiate construction of a Faculty of Medicine at the University Hospital in the near future.
