Clashes broke out in the As-Sabra area of the Gaza Strip on Saturday afternoon, according to residents.

Eyewitnesses told Ma’an that the clashes lasted for two hours before de facto police surrounded the area. Ambulances arrived, as well, to treat one person reportedly injured in the incident.

Members of the large Doghmush family were involved, residents added.

According to police, Atef Doghmush, 43, was moderately hurt before security fo

rces took control.

Israeli media sources reported the clashes as factional rather than clan-related.

The Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said that exchanges of fire were between the “Army of Islam” group and gunmen affiliated with a radical organization ideologically aligned with Al-Qaeda.

The clashes left seven wounded, according to that report, which said at least five mortar shells were fired during the incident, and that Hamas government security forces surrounded the area.
