Egypt denies existence of 'Free Egyptian Army'

May 4, 2014 at 10:38 am

There is no such entity as the “Free Egyptian Army” on the western borders of Egypt, Egyptian deputy minister of interior said Saturday.

In an interview with the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper published Saturday, General Sayed Shafik, Deputy Minister of Interior for General Security, said that the so-called “Free Egyptian Army” does not exist.

However, he confirmed that security agencies arrested a “terrorist cell that was in possession of tons of explosives, explosive belts, cruise missiles and heavy equipment, which was preparing to target the interim president Adly Mansour, Field Marshal Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Interior Minister Major General Mohammad Ibrahim, along with 12 of his top aides and eight important figures, in what is known as ‘the list of 23’.”
