Hamas rejects ‘unilateral’ ministerial reshuffle

May 5, 2015 at 8:31 am

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement said on Monday that it rejects any “unilateral” reshuffle in the Palestinian unity government, it has been reported in the local media. According to Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zuhri, any ministerial reshuffle “must” be agreed by all of the Palestinian national factions.

“Any reshuffle [made by Fatah] will turn the ministerial council into a partisan government,” insisted Abu-Zuhri. Hamas has represented the overwhelming majority in the Palestinian parliament since the last full election in 2006.

The Hamas statement was made in response to a comment by a member of the Fatah executive committee, Mahmoud Al-Aloul, who said on Sunday that PA and Fatah head Mahmoud Abbas is planning to make changes in the national unity government. Al-Aloul explained that the reshuffle is part of the effort to implement the reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas, even though the Islamic movement claims that it has not been told anything about it.
