Obama rules out Israeli-Palestinian peace deal with Netanyahu

American President Barack Obama ruled out on Thursday that a peace deal between the Palestinians and the Israeli occupation would be forged during the rule of the new Israeli government, Associated Press reported.

After the approval of the new Israeli government, which is the fourth Israeli government led by the right-wing Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu, Obama told journalists in Camp David that he is dedicated to the two-state solution because of the security and safety of Israel.

“I continue to believe a two-state solution is absolutely vital for not only peace between Israelis and Palestinians, but for the long-term security of Israel as a democratic and Jewish state,” Obama said according to AP.

However, he expressed his fears that this would be unachievable goal because the Israeli government includes members who oppose this idea.

“I know that a government has been formed that contains some folks who do not necessarily believe in that premise [two-state solution], but that continues to be my premise,” he said.

“That prospect seems distant now, but I think it is always important for us to keep in mind what is right and what is possible,” he added.
