111 'terrorist' acts committed in Egypt in a week

According to a new report, Egypt was witness to 111 “terrorist” acts during the past week, from 26 June – 2 July, 2015. These acts included the targeting of army, police forces and civilians in a number of municipalities.

The report, issued by the Parliamentary Elections Observatory, which is affiliated with the Local-International Joint Mission in Egypt, indicated that the number of violent acts committed in the country increased by 68 per cent compared to the previous week. The majority of the reported incidents were committed in the Sinai Peninsula.

The report, which focuses on monitoring “acts of violence and terrorist crimes” in Egypt, also added that the bombings and violence have spread across 17 municipalities over the past week. However, the bombings were mostly concentrated in North Sinai. This area witnessed the most violent attacks against the army and police forces, resulting in the death of 17 members of the Armed Forces, according to the official statement of the Egyptian army.

In addition to this, the report also noted that the Armed Forces and the police were mostly targeted during the past week, as 45 accidents out of the 111 (41 per cent) directly targeted them.
