KRG condemns PKK attack on Turkey's oil pipeline

The Kurdish regional government (KRG) denounced Friday the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) group’s attack on the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

In a statement released on the KRG official website, the Kurdish administration strongly condemned the attack, describing the pipeline as a source of livelihood in Iraq’s northern region.

Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline was attacked in Sirnak province on Wednesday. The sabotage bombing took place 18 kilometers inside the Cizre district of Sirnak province, next to the border with Iraq.

The Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline has a maximum operational capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, but actual flows are around 300,000 barrels per day due to attacks on the pipeline, which frequently disrupt the operation, according to the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq’s reconstruction.

The Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline has a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrel per day.

Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist group.
