A Syrian delegation visited Cairo last week to discuss the possible transfer of power of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad to one of his close associates, a senior Egyptian political figure said.
“The Syrian delegation in Cairo discussed an initiative that Assad will announce on reforms on handing over power to someone close to him and also arranging regional visits for Assad under Egyptian protection,” Ayman Nour, a former member of the Egyptian parliament and co- founder and chairman of the El Ghad party, tweeted yesterday.
Differences between Saudi Arabia and Egypt over Assad’s future seem to be floating to the surface after Saudi media outlets reported that King Salman was to visit Cairo, news which was later denied by Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir.
