2,363 Palestinian pilgrims travel to Makkah from Cairo

The number of Palestinian pilgrims who departed from Cairo airport heading towards Saudi Arabia over the past three days has reached 2,363.

The worshippers travelled through the Rafah Crossing which was specially opened to allow them to enter Egypt, security sources explained.

According to security sources in the airport, the third and final batch of Palestinian pilgrims from Gaza departed from Cairo International Airport yesterday.

These sources also told the Anadolu Agency that the crossing was closed after the last batch of pilgrims passed through it.

The total number of Palestinian pilgrims from the West Bank and Gaza Strip this year reached nearly 6,000. The pilgrims from the West Bank usually travel through Jordan.

Egypt Air signed an agreement of understanding with the Palestinian airlines on August 12 in order to facilitate nine special trips to take the Palestinian pilgrims from Gaza to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj this year.
