Egypt’s Court of Appeal upheld the three year jail term handed down to Al-Wafd party chairman Al-Sayyid El-Badawi for issuing cheques which bounced, each valued at 250,000 Egyptian pounds ($31,935).
However, El-Badawi’s lawyer Jamil Saed said the court, headed by Judge Mohammed Shaaban, has no jurisdiction to consider the case.
In July, the Court of Misdemeanours headed by Judge Mahmoud Barbarry sentenced El-Badawi to three years and fined him 10,000 Egyptian pounds ($1,277).
