Ghannouchi to Erdogan: ‘Your victory is a loss for chaos in the region’

November 3, 2015 at 10:45 am

Rashid Ghannouchi, leader of the Tunisian Ennahda party, yesterday congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu following their party’s victory in the snap parliamentary elections, Tunisian radio Shams FM reported.

“Winning the majority of the parliamentary seats is considered a loss for the chaos, coup and anti-revolution projects in the region,” Ghannouchi told Erdogan.

According to Almesryoon.com, which reported Shams FM, Ghannouchi phoned the president and the prime minister and told them: “This is a victory for democracy in the region and a victory for the prosperous economy which was achieved by the [Freedom and Justice] party.”

Ghannouchi noted that Turkey had supported the Tunisian economy and security, as well as supplied the Tunisian army with weapons which are being used today to fight terrorism.

The Freedom and Justice Party achieved 49.36 per cent of votes in last week’s elections, allowing them to form a government alone.
