Dismissed Fatah leader Mohamed Dahlan yesterday called for reconciliation with Fatah and Hamas in order to achieve Palestinian unity on a national and stable basis, PalSawa.com reported.
Speaking to Al-Ghad Al-Arabi TV on the 11th anniversary of Yasser Arafat’s death, Dahlan called on the Palestinian factions to forgive each other and turn a new page.
He called on Hamas and Fatah President Mahmoud Abbas to start working to regain internal unity based on national and stable political bases, stressing on the importance to pay attention to the future.
“It is not acceptable to speak about the nine years of the past,” he said, “we have to speak at least about one year in the future for the sake of Palestine.” He noted that there is a “sea of blood” between him and Hamas, but that lessons should be learnt about how not to repeat it.
Dahlan revealed efforts being exerted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to “strengthen Fatah and regaining national unity.”
He noted that the Egyptian leadership has a “very good national understanding regarding the Palestinian issue and is aware of the importance of strengthening Fatah in light of the dangerous situation in the Gaza Strip and Israeli violations in the West Bank.”
“Fatah is my home and how much oppression I had from it or from anyone else, this is nothing and it fades with time.” He stressed that he cannot leave the movement.
Meanwhile, Fatah spokesman in the West Bank Ahmed Assaf said that Dahlan was dismissed following a decision of the Revolutionary Council over “killing crimes and criminal acts, including siphoned hundreds of millions of dollars.”
According to Ma’an, Assaf called for Dahlan to hand himself over to the Palestinian judiciary and stop describing his dispute with Abbas as personal as it harms the Palestinian interests.
He added that Dahlan organised rallies that chanted against Yasser Arafat and caused chaos and instability among the Palestinian people.
He concluded that Dahlan has no place in Fatah and has to stop broadcasting lies.
