Erekat calls for EU to take measures against companies who benefit from the occupation

December 2, 2015 at 10:52 am

PLO Secretary-General Saeb Erekat yesterday demanded the EU take immediate action against companies who profit directly or indirectly from the Israeli occupation in violation of international law.

In an official letter addressed to EU Foreign Affairs Chief Federica Mogherini, Erekat expressed serious concern about the security services provided by G4S to the European External Action Service (EEAS).

In his letter, Erekat said a Palestinian delegation was shocked during a recent visit to the EEAS headquarters when it saw that G4S guards were securing the building, noting that the company is one of many involved in the illegal Israeli occupation.

“G4S supports not only the occupation but helps it create prison systems and industrial settlements and promotes colonialism and apartheid through the provision of manpower for the illegal military bases and the forced displacement of the Palestinian people and provides settlers with protection and security,” he said.

He stressed that members of the European Union are obliged to prevent the occurrence of war crimes and apartheid which include the colonisation of occupied areas.
