The Turkish-Russian High Level Cooperation Council meeting, due to be held in Saint Petersburg today, will not take place, a Russian source revealed.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters yesterday: “Russian President Vladimir Putin will not host his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, at the bilateral summit in St Petersburg on Tuesday.”
The two presidents scheduled the meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit last month in Turkey.
Relations between Turkey and Russia deteriorated after Ankara shot down a Russian warplane it said had violated its airspace.
In retaliation, Moscow imposed economic sanctions on Turkey.
On Friday, Putin ordered his forces to “shoot down any goal” that threatens Russian troops or infrastructure in Syria in a clear reference to the Turkish forces.
