Christian PLO official calls Egypt’s killing of Gaza resident a ‘dirty act’

The head of the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s Department for Links with the Christian World has described Egypt’s killing of a mentally-ill Palestinian from Gaza as a “dirty act”, Al-Resalah newspaper reported on Sunday.

“The premeditated killing of Ishaq Hassan is an act which ignores Arabism and the idea of the common defence of human life,” insisted Monseigneur Manuel Musallam. The Roman Catholic priest said that the Palestinians are waiting for the people of Egypt to stand with them and support them, “not kill them and conspire against them.” He called on the Egyptian government to “respect the people of Gaza, lift the siege and open the border.”

Father Musallam reminded the Egyptians that while borders are not holy, the human soul is.

Al-Jazeera broadcast footage on Friday of the Egyptian army shooting and killing a mentally-ill Palestinian who had crossed the border by a few metres. The young man was completely naked at the time.
