Netanyahu plans to encircle Israel with fences to protect it from ‘wild beasts’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he wanted to encircle Israel with fences to protect it from “wild beasts” in the Middle East, Safa news agency reported on Tuesday.

While touring the route of a fence being built along Israel’s eastern border with Jordan, Netanyahu said: “We are preparing a multi-year plan to surround the entire State of Israel with security fences to protect ourselves in the current Middle East.”

About the costs, he said: “This thing costs many billions and we’re working on a multi-year plan of prioritization so it would be spread out over years in order to gradually build it, but to complete it to defend the State of Israel.”

“The advantage of building here as well as along the border with Egypt is that there are no structures every kilometer or two next to the fence, which can be served as shafts and tunnels,” Netanyahu said.

He also said that Israel was preparing to fix the holes in the separation wall along the West Bank.

Israel began in January to build a 30 km fence along the border with Jordan, starting from the southernmost city of Eilat and ending at the Ramon International Airport in Timna.
