The Israeli Supreme Court is due to hold a hearing today regarding the fate of detained Palestinian journalist Muhammed Al-Qeeq, to decide if he can receive treatment in a Palestinian hospital.
This comes as new footage circulated showing the toll that Al-Qeeq’s 84-day hunger strike in protest of his administrative detention has taken on his heart and health.
Yesterday, the court proposed Al-Qeeq be transferred to Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem, however he refused as this would mean he remain under Israeli military control.
Today’s hearing is due to address Al-Qeeq’s demand to choose the hospital where he is to be treated. In a statement, Makassed Hospital’s management voiced their support for Al-Qeeq’s right to be treated at a hospital of his choosing, saying they would not receive him without his consent.
