German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that she supports a no-fly zone in Syria, AlKhaleejonline.com reported yesterday.

Speaking to a German newspaper, Merkel said: “In light of the current situation, it is useful to have a no-fly zone where combatting sides do not carry out airstrikes.”
According to AlKhaleejonline.com, Turkey, which currently hosts more than 2.6 million Syrian refugees, has been pushing for a safe-zone in the north of Syria to protect those displaced within the country and stop them moving to Turkey.
Washington and NATO countries rejected this proposal, fearing that this might drag them to a direct confrontation with President Bashar Al-Assad because this would need international protection.
