The Darfur Peace Office at the Republic of Sudan’s presidency has welcomed the step taken by the Darfur rebel movements, the Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement, towards consultation with the joint mediation on their intention to join the peace process in Darfur.

The statement adds that the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) remains the basis for any negotiations regarding joining the peace process.

According to the statement, the office said that provisions in the DDPD are not subject to negotiation, but stressed that the government of Sudan has expressed its readiness to hear from both sides about any concerns not resolved in the document.

The Sudanese government also expressed its willingness to absorb the forces of the two movements and to include them in the political participation process within the framework of national arrangements to be agreed upon by all the political forces engaged in the national dialogue.
