Lieberman: Too early to ask about promise to assassinate Haniyeh

June 7, 2016 at 3:32 pm

A week after he took office as Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman evaded a question about his commitment to assassinate former deputy head of Hamas’s Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, within 48 hours.

During a press conference, Lieberman said he should be asked about this promise at the end of his tenure when an evaluation can be made of his time in power.

More than a month ago, Lieberman said that if he was the defence minister he would give Haniyeh a 48-hour ultimatum to return the bodies of Israeli soldiers and detainees kept in Gaza, otherwise “as far as I’m concerned, you should order for yourself a spot in the nearest cemetery.”

He went on to call on Jewish Home party leader Naftali Bennett to mend ties with Likud and to avoid escalation so as to preserve a coherent right-wing coalition.
