Investigators begin examining EgyptAir black boxes

Egypt’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee on Saturday started to repair the memory units of EgyptAir flight MS804’s black box recorders which crashed into the Mediterranean Sea last month.

The commission said in a statement on Sunday that both French and US investigators are attending the inspection process.

On Thursday, a French research vessel recovered the flight data recorder, a day after the cockpit voice recorder was also recovered.

An EgyptAir flight crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on 19 May, shortly after it had entered Egyptian airspace, killing all 66 on board.

An Egyptian official said the voice and data recorders from the airplane are extensively damaged and will need repairs before they can be analysed.
