Leader of Tunisia’s Ennahda movement and former Minister of Health Dr. Abdellatif Makki has said a majority government is more likely to be formed than the national unity government proposed by President Beji Caid Essebsi.
Makki explained in remarks to Quds Press that the conditions for the national unity government are not yet available.
“I think we are moving towards forming a majority government, but we still have a long way to go. Things are progressing very slowly,” he added.
Makki pointed out that some key issues like whether the current prime minister will continue to act as head of the new government need to be resolved first.
Essebsi announced early in June the beginning of negotiations to form a new national unity government and called to include the Tunisian General Labour Union.
The formation of a national unity government requires the resignation of the current government and to assign a new prime minister, as well as to obtain parliament approval.
