Palestinian Legislative Council shows solidarity with hunger strikers

August 4, 2016 at 1:53 pm

The Palestinian Legislative Council organised an event at its headquarters to show solidarity with hunger striking prisoners this morning.

First Deputy Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Ahmed Bahar, sent greetings to all Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails. “We stand before you today in solidarity with and in recognition and respect of our brothers and sons in Israeli jails,” he said.

He asserted that the suffering prisoner Ahmed Saadat, an member of parliament who has been on hunger strike for five days, and all the other detainees including Bilal Kayed, who has now entered his 51st day of open strike, constitute a continuation of endless pain and suffering endured by detainees amid the silence and complicity of the international community.

He added that the crimes of the Israeli occupation constitute a flagrant violation of all international norms and conventions, including the principles and provisions of the international humanitarian law and the third Geneva Convention, stressing that the hunger strikes show the prisoners’ unity against the repressive measures of administrative detention.
