Yemeni government forces expelled Al-Qaeda extremists from the city of Zinjibar, the capital of the Abyan province in southern Yemen, security sources have said.
In remarks to Aden Al-Ghad newspaper, the source said that the army has been deployed in the eastern outskirts of Zinjibar and is on its way towards the city of Jaar while another force is headed towards the coastal city of Shakra to secure it.
The source added that Arab coalition warplanes have provided air support to the forces on the ground and targeted Al-Qaeda elements who fled before the army arrived.
The military leadership told residents not to use the Zinjibar-Jaar road for fear of car bomb attacks. It warned that anyone approaching army vehicles would be targeted.
The leadership said it will target any civilian vehicle that tries to approach the army’s vehicles.
