August 24, 2016 at 10:27 am

Sudan has recently received the South Sudanese armed opposition leader Riek Machar for medical treatment, Sudan’s Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman told the state news agency SUNA on Tuesday.

“Sudan has recently received Dr. Riek Machar on pure humanitarian grounds,” he said.

“Dr Riek Machar’s health is stable currently and he will remain in the country under comprehensive healthcare until he leaves for a destination of his choice,” Osman told SUNA.

The minister explained that his country has officially informed the State of South Sudan.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir sacked Machar from his post as vice president after a renewal last month of fighting which has forced tens of thousands of people to flee.
