France welcomes Turkish military operation in northern Syria

France yesterday welcomed the Turkish military operation near the northern Syrian city of Jarabulus in the fight against Daesh.

France welcome the intensification of the efforts of the Turkey, partner of the coalition in the fight against ISIS," said a spokesman of the French Foreign Ministry at a press briefing, using another acronym for the group.

"Eradicate ISIS implies a concentration of efforts of the partners in the international coalition in the fight against this terrorist organisation", he added.

It also means "the search for a solution to the conflict in Syria, which cannot go through a political transition in line with the 2254 of United Nations Security Council resolution."

Turkish forces began a military operation dubbed "Euphrates Shield" early yesterday, backed by the US-led coalition. Apart from striking Daesh sites, the operation also aims to deliver humanitarian aid.
