September 16, 2016 at 2:14 am

The Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) launched an attack today in Agri, Eastern Turkey, that killed seven members of the Turkish Police. The victims comprised village guards and one specialist sergeant.

Four soldiers and two civilians were also injured, reports Anadolu news agency. The wounded were taken to Dogubeyazit State Hospital and one of the soldiers remains in critical condition.

After the attack there were further clashes between PKK and Turkish forces in Gokcebulak village in Tendurek Mountain.

The Turkish military later attacked the region with air power.

The PKK and the Turkish state have been locked in a 30-year armed conflict over the issue of Kurdish claims to independence.
