The United Arab Emirates (UAE) said yesterday that it has adopted a non-interventionist stance regarding the Syrian crisis which is different from other Arab and even Western countries, the Egyptian Almesryoon news site reported.

Ahmed Mefreh, a rights activist, reported that the UAE’s representative to the UN Human Rights Council rejected a military intervention to resolve the Syrian conflict, which is different to most Arab and Western countries.

According to Almesryoon, Mefreh attended the UN meeting on Syria where the UAE’s representative made the comments. He reported the UAE’s representative as not addressing Russian interference in Syria or its violations. He only said that his country had relocated 100,000 Syrians.

Meanwhile, other Arab Gulf states made comments regarding the Syrian conflict.

Saudi Arabia called for the UN Human Rights Council to refer those responsible for crimes against humanity and war crimes to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Kuwait has said that there was no benefit from exchanging accusations or discussing partial solutions, calling for a comprehensive solution without giving details.

Bahrain expressed hope that the discussions would end with a solution to the Syrian crisis.

Yesterday’s UN meeting came following a British request on behalf of 11 Arab and Western countries, including the US. The meeting discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria.

Russia accused the organisers of the UN meeting of supporting terrorists and their “savage” acts carried out in Aleppo.

“The organisers of this meeting did not condemn the terrorist organisations or their savage acts,” the Russian representative said. “No one mentioned the crimes of the US-led coalition,” he added.

Russia began airstrikes in Syria in September 2015, claiming that it was targeting Daesh. The US and many of its allies have been insisting that Russia mainly targets the Syrian opposition which has nothing to do with Daesh.
