Fatah has refused any new ideas to achieve internal Palestinian reconciliation with its rival Hamas, AlKhaleejOnline reported yesterday.
Member of Fatah Central Committee Jamal Muheisen reiterated that any local or international discussions “must concentrate on how to implement the Cairo agreement”.
He stressed that his movement would never accept any new international vision for internal reconciliation regardless of who proposes it.
Early this week, Moscow announced that it would host representatives of the Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas on 15 January to discuss reconciliation.
The Russian Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa Mikhail Bogdanov said in May last year that the internal Palestinians division is negative and undermines the progress of the peace process.
He noted that his country is working to help Palestinians achieve internal unity in order to represent Palestine as a united body, noting this is a “priority” for his country.
Meanwhile, Muheisen said: “Fatah welcomes and supports any Arab or international effort to move forward the file of the internal reconciliation,” describing this issue as a “complicated”.
He said that his movement does not expect much from the discussions with Hamas. “The meeting will only include discussions and will never make any breakthroughs.”
